This beautiful Tampa Bay waterfront neighborhood, with its Mediterranean Revival styled homes, was first developed in the 1920′s and known as Alta Marina. The neighborhood was replatted as Bahama Beach in the 1940′s and doubled in size with the filling of a portion of Tampa Bay. On the neighborhood’s north end, where today’s Westminster Shores retirement community is located, was the luxurious waterfront Bahama Shores Hotel & Yacht Club. At the neighborhood’s south end, where Bay Vista Park stands today, was the Bee Line Ferry Co. terminal (formed in 1926), providing an auto route to the south before the 1954 opening of the then two lane Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The tour will be led by neighborhood resident, historian and former SPP President Will Michaels.
