Whitted House Porch Party
Join us for a the first porch party of 2025 at the Whitted House in the Old Northeast.
Joan and Kent Ulrich will be our hosts—they won Preserve the 'Burg's 2017 Award of Honor for Residential Stewardship for their care of this home.
The Whitted House, c. 1911, incorporates details of Craftsman, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles of architecture. The house is significant for its association with Thomas Whitted and his son Albert. Thomas Whitted served on the St. Petersburg Town Council from 1894–1895 and spearheaded the building of St.Petersburg's first public school.
Albert, one of Thomas and Julia's eight children, operated commercial charter flights on his seaplane "Bluebird" from a hangar located on the Vinoy Yacht Basin near the present day site of the St. Petersburg Historical Museum. When the City decided to build a municipal airport on landfill near Bayboro Harbor in 1929 it was named in honor of Albert Whitted.

Bedinghaus Residence Porch Party
Join us for a Porch Party hosted by Eileen and Jim Bedinghaus.
Their midcentury home—built in 1955—exhibits a unique green concrete block construction.
Jim Bedinghaus, himself an architect, designed new renovations in 2018 that modernize the home and mimic the historic style while permitting upgrades like rooftop solar panels.
